When it comes to natural and organic skin and hair care, there are so many factors to consider and so many ingredients on offer that it can be a little overwhelming to stop and think about everything you can use on your skin and hair.

At Belle & Co we carefully formulate our natural organic beauty products so that you don’t need to worry about this – we’ve done the hard part for you. But you might be interested to know a little more about some of our key ingredients, why we use them and what they will do for your skin.

So, without further ado, let’s introduce you to some of our favourite natural beauty ingredients to help explain why we love them so much.

Our guide to some of our favourite Organic Skin and Hair Care Ingredients

Rosehip Oil

Not to be confused with Rose oil (which comes from rose petals),  rosehip oil is pressed using the fruit and seeds of the rose plant. It’s been a revered ingredient in natural beauty since ancient times and is a very special ingredient to use.

Over recent years Rosehip oil has topped many a ‘wonder stuff’ list. Rosehip is packed with Beta-Carotene which gives it very special properties for maintaining healthy skin and helping skin cell renewal.

Rosehip oil benefits your skin by providing deep hydration to keep it soft and supple, even as you age. It’s full of essential fatty acids which work to keep the walls of your skin cells strong and lock in that hydration. Because of this, and that skin cell renewal property it’s wonderful for keeping those unwanted signs of ageing from taking hold.

And while it hydrates and moisturises, rosehip oil also exfoliates and brightens the skin. It’s rich with vitamin A, which you might know as retinol, plus it also has vitamin C which is well-known for brightening skin and boosting cell regeneration. Both of these vitamins also help your skin form collagen which gives skin that bounce and firmness of youth and help to reduce wrinkles.

Not only does rosehip oil smell beautiful as a rose should, but it also helps quell inflammation and guard against sun damage. Basically, we love rosehip oil because it does so much for your skin and we know you’re going to love our products that feature it too.

Our newest favourite Rosehip Oil treat is our pink clay face mask

Cacay Oil

The chances are you’ve not heard of cacay oil but we’ll let you in on this little secret now - the Amazon’s best organic beauty secret!

Cacay Oil is an incredibly nutrient-rich oil that packs quite the punch of antioxidants and vitamins to target the signs of ageing. When you use our products, you’ll see a noticeable improvement in skin tone. That’s the power of cacay oil working for you!

As far as superfood oils go, cacay oil provides some of the best smoothing powers we’ve seen. It boosts hydration and firmness too. Like rosehip oil, cacay oil delivers with a huge dose of vitamin A plus vitamins E and F, making natural beauty easy to achieve. Cacay oil is believed to contain 3x more retinol than other anti aging oils!

There’s no need to worry about it coming from the Amazon, this one is sustainably-sourced for beautiful skin with a clear conscience.

Pomegranate Oil

Have you ever heard pomegranate referred to as “the divine fruit?” Because It is packed with antioxidants and vitamins, it’s one of those superfoods you should be nourishing yourself with on the inside. But on the outside, we love pomegranate oil too - when it comes to natural beauty products it is truly a treasure.

Just break a pomegranate open and it looks like thousands of sparkling little jewels! For your skin, the polyphenols and antioxidants help protect you from oxidation caused by free radicals. It also helps your skin cells regenerate and repair which smooths out wrinkles even deep down. With nourishing properties, it keeps skin moisturised and super-soft.

As a high-performance carrier oil, it brings on the hydration, softness, protection, and skin regeneration you need in your natural beauty routine.

Evening Primrose Oil

Evening primrose oil holds the nickname of the “King’s Cure-All.” That’s because it seems to have majestic properties to it making it fit for royalty. And we think it’s fit for you too to make your organic beauty routine even more phenomenal!

It’s good for soothing and moisturising your skin, hair, and scalp while boosting elasticity. For skin, it helps clear things up while promoting rejuvenation and radiance. We love it for giving you a soft, flawless, and ageless look. How does it do all that? It contains linoleic acids, better known as omega-6 plus oleic acid which is known as omega-9.

Linoleic acid is ideal for adding in more moisture to dry hair and skin, and especially mature skin,  Oleic acid makes skin and hair soft and supple while stimulating growth and rejuvenation. Another bonus: it helps clear away dandruff. One more reason we love evening primrose oil is that this carrier oil is gentle enough for sensitive skin so we feel confident that no matter your skin type, you’ll benefit through our natural skin care products, especially when they contain evening primrose oil!

Argan Oil

Native to Morocco, Argan oil, has been used for centuries in organic beauty routines. It comes from the kernels of the argan trees and is used for beautifying the hair, skin, and nails. With an intensive level of antioxidants, argan oil is fantastic for caring for sun damaged skin, though it really shines when it comes to adding moisture and it's a perfect addition to a natural beauty regime.

We love using it in both our skin and hair care range because it’s full of vitamin E which is so good for your skin and hair! With this antioxidant vitamin, argan oil is also wonderful for keeping inflammation at bay. This makes it great for you if you have psoriasis, rosacea, or even acne as it helps regulate your sebum production on the skin.

Scientific studies have shown that using argan oil can increase skin elasticity which makes for a beautiful anti-aging treatment. That same benefit for elasticity is also good for keeping stretch marks away, making it a fantastic organic ingredient in lotion!

Barbary Fig

Cactuses. They look prickly and mean, but beneath that tough exterior, they hold a key to your natural beauty!

Barbary fig comes from a thorny cactus which you might know as prickly pear. What makes it so spectacular is that it features an exceptionally-rich amount of vitamin E and linoleic acid. Some say it has even more than argan oil! (We think by use both and you'll get all the amazing benefits).

Barbary fig has a very special added benefit in the form of some powerful antioxidants along with active minerals and amino acids. What does all that mean for your skin? It stops free radicals from destroying your natural radiance It promotes new cell growth. And it really delivers on hydration. If your skin is damaged, dry, or maturing and really needs something to quench it deep down, barbary fig will be your new best friend.

Speaking of mature skin, it also helps even out skin tone from hyperpigmentation (goodbye age spots!), while the fatty acids help plump your skin to erase wrinkles.

And Barbary fig’s power doesn’t stop with your skin - it’s wonderful for your hair too, hydrating dry tresses and scalp to reveal more shine.

Hemp Seed Oil

Hemp seed oil comes from the cold-pressing of hemp seeds. It’s not the same as CBD oil, which is made from the cannabis plant extract and the hemp flowers and leaves. So there’s absolutely no THC in hemp seed oil, and there are a ton of benefits for your health and skin when you use it.

Wondering what hemp seed oil does so spectacularly? For starters, it helps regulate your oil production. This makes it great for all skin types, but we particularly love it for oily skin because it nourishes and moisturises without clogging pores. What many people don’t realise is that oily skin needs moisturising too. Drying it out can perpetuate the breakout cycle because it just causes your skin to make more oil. Hemp seed oil helps manage this to reveal your best and clearest skin.

Hemp seed oil contains high levels of omega-6 fatty acids, particularly GLA (known as gamma-linolenic acid), known for its anti-inflammatory and regenerative properties. And yes, because it can help cells renew and delivers hydration that plumps from within, hemp seed oil is something we at Belle & Co love to add to our anti-aging formulations.

Baobab

The oil from the seeds of this tree does some rather extraordinary things for organic beauty regimes. Baobab contains more antioxidants than goji berries and pomegranates, and when we pair it with our other antioxidant-rich natural beauty ingredients, we have a natural recipe for success to relieve ageing skin.

Baobab isn’t just for skin that needs to turn back the hands of time. It’s a very well-known moisturiser, one that also works wonders in lip treatments. It also has a big ol’ punch of vitamin C which gets that collagen production back up to youthful levels again, not to mention adds a brightening quality.

Hair and nails benefit from baobab too. It has plenty of protein which strengthens through and through. For hair, the result is silkiness you can’t beat.

Carrot seed oil

Perhaps you put carrots on your salad or munch carrot sticks for a healthy snack. Carrots contain beta-carotene plus antioxidants, and potassium. While eating them surely has its benefits, so too does using carrot seed oil for your natural beauty.

Carrot seed oil is distilled from tiny carrot seeds. It might not be as well known as the other natural beauty ingredients on our list…have you heard of it before? Well, now you know! What it does best is help mature skin with anti-aging properties. It replenishes lost moisture and helps smooth away fine lines and wrinkles. Over time, it has a brightening effect, one that evens out skin tone to fade age spots away.

It is packed full of vitamins and antioxidants which destroys free radicals and helps bring your youthfulness back, front and centre. While it is most ideal for aging skin, it can benefit all skin types without leaving a heavy or greasy feeling behind.

Our anti ageing facial oil bar is packed full of our favourites - carrot seed oil too!

Tomato seed oil

Tomatoes have long been known for their lycopene content. They’ve also been revealed to help protect you from sun damage. Technically a fruit, tomatoes are a more often found at the dinner table but they can also bring you incredible skin from their seed oil.

For skin and hair, tomato seed oil brings astounding benefits. It adds deep hydration that works for all types of skin, but above all, is most spectacular for ageing skin. That’s because it helps skin cell regeneration, improves elasticity, evens out the tone of skin, and reduces those pesky fine lines and wrinkles that you swore weren’t there yesterday.

When your skin feels uncomfortable due to dryness, perhaps even cracking under the pressure, tomato seed oil is an ideal soother. It naturally heals irritations from all sorts of skin conditions including eczema, psoriasis, and acne. With healing properties, it also helps scars and stretch marks fade into the background.
